Sporttrade Gets CFTC Exchange and Clearing Approval.

Bar chart of days after Sporttrade's first CFTC application submission on 27 January 2026: clearinghouse registered after 262 days, exchange designated after 276 days, approvals announced after 280 days

The Commodity Futures Trading Commission has approved Sporttrade to run both a sports event-contract exchange and its own clearinghouse. The CFTC’s filing record lists Sporttrade DCM LLC as a designated contract market from 30 October 2026, and its clearing-organization register lists Sporttrade DCO LLC as registered on 16 October. The company announced both approvals on 3 November.

What the CFTC order says

The four-page order of designation describes Sporttrade DCM as a Delaware company headquartered in Camden, New Jersey, whose application included submissions dated 27 January through 30 October 2026. Sporttrade told the agency it will run an anonymous electronic central limit order book, monitor trading in real time and on a next-business-day basis, and have every listed contract cleared on a fully collateralized basis. Its board will include public directors with no material relationship to the company.

The approval is conditional on Sporttrade sticking to the representations in its application and to all CFTC rules for designated contract markets. The clearinghouse entry says it may clear fully collateralized futures, options on futures and swaps.

What Sporttrade says it will do

In its 3 November release, Sporttrade said the registrations let it take orders through futures commission merchants, introducing brokers, software vendors and direct-access participants, and clear trades for other exchanges. It said it is onboarding brokers with national distribution “such as Fliff” to route customer orders to the exchange “pending regulatory approval,” and that it will roll out in phases, starting with select flow and liquidity providers. The release gives no launch date and does not say which sports or contracts come first.

Why it matters for GambleFi

Sporttrade adds another federally regulated sports venue to a field already crowded with 41 tracked prediction-market venues. It arrives as the CFTC tells exchanges to drop state-by-state geoblocks within 30 days or explain why they cannot, while courts such as the Second Circuit leave states free to enforce gambling laws for now. How Sporttrade handles state access at launch will be worth watching, as will how it lists props after the CFTC’s stay of Novig’s NBA and WNBA contracts.

For a non-custodial contrast, our SX Bet page covers an onchain sports exchange, and the GambleFi FAQ explains how such venues differ from licensed exchanges. This is a report on regulatory filings, not legal or betting advice.
